There are basically two types of handpieces, air-driven and electric.
Electric handpieces are much stronger than air-driven due to the fact that a motor is spinning the bur as opposed to air. This will cut down on the time it takes to complete a procedure and used during the implant process.
Air-Driven Handpieces: Oral surgeries require a range of precautions to ensure the safety of the patient, and using a surgical air driven handpiece can be a part of creating a safety net for our patients. These air turbine handpieces are designed to prevent air from spraying into the surgical site which can cause complications. Instead, most surgical dental handpieces exhaust air back to the dental unit, keeping the working area safe.
